Can good “people management” skills turbo boost your career?
According to northern beaches local Susan Keyzer she is a modern day multitasker. She sometimes has to please 12 different managers on any given day which compelled her to take action. “When I saw the NBCC leadership and management course I knew it was a great chance to learn”
With 60% of future occupations set to be automated (Forbes 2017), Susan is part of a new breed of employee who is recognizing the importance of human skills in the face of a rapidly changing workforce. Many booking themselves into management courses, like her, have no team of direct reports, but see these soft skills as essential for the future.
“Each Manager I deal with has a unique management style, so gaining an understanding of these styles really helps me do my everyday job” “I especially enjoyed the emotional intelligence module”, Susan enthused.
This trend is truly global. A 2017 Deloitte report on “the future of work” said research confirmed it is the “human skills” such as leadership, empathy, communication, people management and problem solving that will be MORE important. Employees who adapt are clear winners. Susan chose local college NBCC (Northern Beaches Community College) due to location, award winning reputation and convenient times. She said the course exceeded her learning expectations along with an outstanding trainer.
"We are all subjected to rapid changes at work so being flexible is key. I believe everyone is a leader. A course like I did is invaluable at any stage of your career."
