BSB51918 Diploma of Leadership and Management

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in leadership and management across a range of enterprise and industry contexts. Individuals at this level display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others. They use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements. They plan, design, apply and evaluate solutions to unpredictable problems, and identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources.

Virtual Classroom

As a result of the COVID-19 situation in Australia, this course will be delivered in term 2, 2020 using virtual classroom via Zoom. Zoom is easy to use video conferencing software with a simple set up. You will be able to see your trainer and classmates and interact as though you were in the same room, all from the comfort of your own home!

This is what you need to join a Zoom classroom:

  • Understanding the basics of using Zoom – see our free Zoom tutorial by clicking here.
  • Access to a computer, iPad/tablet or smartphone; and
  • A webcam* so that you can be seen by the trainer; and
  • A microphone* so that you can participate in the class and be heard by the trainer; and
  • A good Internet connection.

*If you have a laptop computer a webcam and microphone is usually built into the top of the screen frame. Smartphones and iPad/tablets also contain cameras and microphones.

How will I Learn?

This course is delivered using a blended learning model. Classroom based delivery will be available again once our campuses re-open. You will be required to complete directed self study hours plus assessment tasks in your own time. You will have access to your trainer/assessor for support between classes via email and/or telephone.


Prospective students must have a competent level of language and literacy and computer skills to enrol in this course.

Are there Assessments?

This qualification provides skills and knowledge required to perform effectively as a manager, team leader or supervisor managing a workplace. It will develop skill base and knowledge and awareness of management practice.
Competency based assessment will be conducted through theory tasks, projects and practical demonstration. The training will be delivered by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor.

The Diploma of Leadership and Management provides a pathway to the Advanced Diploma of Management

National Recognition

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - is a means of measuring skills acquired through work or life experiences or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL must apply for this at least two weeks prior to the course commencing. If you apply after the course commences it may not be accepted.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.

Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under the Smart & Skilled Program. To be eligible you must be

  • an Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/NZ citizen/humanitarian visa holder
  • aged 15 years or older, and
  • live or work in New South Wales, and
  • no longer be at school or equivalent

Prior qualification: $2850

Pay by two instalments (half on enrolment and half midway through the course) or $240 on enrolment followed by fortnightly direct debit payments.
