Course Overview:

Making beautiful art doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. Upcycling has a positive environmental impact by promoting the reuse of materials that would otherwise end up in landfill. In this workshop, we'll use paint, paper, fabric, thread and other thrifted or found objects to create beautiful pieces of wall art. Each term, we focus on transforming recycled objects and materials into unique one-of-a-kind art piece. During this course we will be creating a piece of wall art with the theme "seascapes" using found, discarded, or repurposed materials. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this course offers a relaxed and enjoyable environment where you can express your creativity while working with unconventional, sustainable materials.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify and source appropriate upcycled and recycled materials for creating seaside-inspired art.
2. Apply basic design principles to develop balanced and aesthetically pleasing artwork.
3. Master various techniques for crafting wall art, including painting, collage, and mixed media.
4. Create a finished piece of wall art using sustainable materials.

Materials Required:

First session: No Materials are required for the first session (other than a note pad and pen).

Second session: Students will need to bring:

• Art tools (glue-hot glue gun, scissors, paints, brushes, palette knife).
• Basic recycled materials (e. fabric scraps, wool, magazine cutouts, cardboard etc).
• Any other personal upcycled or recycled materials to be incorporated into the art piece.
• Apron or old shirt to protect clothing.
• Recycled thrifted or found frame or canvas to work on.

• Eco-conscious individuals wanting to create unique wall art with minimal environmental impact.

IMPORTANT Please note: This course is held on the second floor of the Brookvale campus. For the second session students will need to carry their materials up 2 flights of stairs.

Julie Lindfield is a qualified art teacher with a specific interest in recycled art and seaside landscapes.
