CHCPRT025 Identify and Report Children and Young People at Risk
As an early childhood educator it is imperative to have the required knowledge and skills to identify specific signs and symptoms that suggest a child in your care may be at risk of harm as well as how to accurately report to and work with relevant authorities and finally how to support a child throughout the process. This nationally accredited course will provide educators the necessary knowledge and skills required to initially identify, support the child, ethically handle the situation, engage with appropriate authorities and accurately complete reporting documentation.
The course will provide education in:
- Identifying children at risk,
- Behavioural indicators,
- Physical indicators,
- Mandatory reporting,
- Referrals and information exchange
- Current legislation including the Keep Them Safe strategy
- Ethical considerations (UNICEF Rights of the Child and Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics)
Course Prerequisite
- Students will be required to bring a laptop to class
- Students enrolling must have access to a work environment that can accommodate assessment to be completed in a education and care setting eg. early childcare, primary or secondary education, children sports programs, after school care etc.
- A post course assessment will be required and is included in the course fees. Students will have 14 days to complete the assessment on completion of the classroom session.

National Recognition
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - is a means of measuring skills acquired through work or life experiences or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL must apply for this at least two weeks prior to the course commencing. If you apply after the course commences it may not be accepted.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.
Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.
Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.
