Adults who work or volunteer in child-related services require the necessary knowledge and skills to recognise specific signs and symptoms that indicate a child in your care may be at risk of harm, as well as how to accurately report to and collaborate with relevant authorities, and finally how to support a child throughout the process.
Studying the CHCPRT025 Identify and report children and young people at risk course offers a range of benefits, helping individuals gain essential knowledge and skills to initially identify the child, support the child, handle the situation ethically, engage with appropriate authorities, and accurately complete reporting documentation.
The course will provide education in:
- Identifying children at risk,
- Behavioural indicators,
- Physical indicators,
- Mandatory reporting,
- Referrals and information exchange
- Current legislation and duty or care including the Keep Them Safe strategy
- Ethical considerations (UNICEF Rights of the Child and Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics)
- Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Course Prerequisite
- Unique Student Identifer (see information below).
- Basic Computer Skills
- All course resources are accessed electronically.
- The resources for this course will be delivered via our NBMC learning management system, CANVAS. Training to use CANVAS will be provided at the beginning of the course. Once access to the course resources is provided, students can either print them and bring them along to class, or access them electronically via their personal laptop. Students enrolling must have access to the following:
- A laptop / computer
- The internet
- A scanner, or a scanner app downloaded on their smart phone
Students will be required to bring a laptop to class to access their course resources.
On conclusion of the practical session students will have 7 days to finalise and upload their completed assessments.
Precourse Work
Online Theory Completion – Before Course Starts
All students will have to complete an online theory course component as a prerequisite to completing the practical session. Students must complete the online theory before the class date – this will take approximately 2-3 hours. If students fail to complete this, they will not be eligible to attend the practical day. When you enrol for the course you will be sent login details to access your course resources and complete the theory section online (note: if you have not received your login at least 7 days prior to the course date, please check your junk mail and/or contact the College immediately).

Please note: Students must be at least 16 years of age to attend & there are no concessions available for this course.
Please arrive in plenty of time as no admission to the course will be allowed after 9.15am. No transfer or refund will be provided in these circumstances.

This course is fully funded for many Australian citizens; permanent residents; New Zealand citizens and Humanitarian Visa Holders under the NSW Government’s Adult & Community Education funding. Unique Student Identifier (USI)
From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.
Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.
Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.
