Resume
I am passionate about training Cert IV in Community Services as it enables me to pull on the experience gained working in the community sector and sharing my story. I enjoy the ability to provide not only flexible training but also additional support as required.
I escaped from the corporate world and embarked on a new career re-training and gaining TAFE and University qualifications which opened the door to an amazing career. I can say the one of the best decisions of my life!
I began my new career working in a front-line emergency service dealing with the most vulnerable people of all ages who experienced poverty requiring material aid. This emergency service in the heart of Sydney gave me an insight into the struggles people have living on the poverty entrenched in a cycle difficult or unable to escape from.
I went on to spend a large part of my journey case managing older people, people with dementia and people with disabilities which equipped me with the skills to prioritise individual needs in a world of chaos.
I then took the opportunity to manage develop and an Eastern Suburbs Seniors Centre being able to create meaningful activities for people over 50.
My next role was working with people with severe disabilities and supporting them to access recreational activities.
I also worked with one of the local Northern Beaches Councils coordinating the community precinct groups and supporting residents to address issues to Council.
I was pleased to accept a role working with female offenders with mental health and drug/alcohol addictions. My role within a team was to support them to change direction begin a new life. This role proved to be a career highlight.
Before accepting the opportunity to train at Northern Beaches & Mosman College, I worked as the Community Development Worker in Partners in Recovery, a program supporting people with severe and persistent mental illness. At the end of this contract I participated in supporting people experiencing mental health illness to access the NDIS.
So here I am as a trainer delivering Certificate IV in Community Services with loads of experience to share and to support students just like me embark on a new career. Let me be an example that it is possible to change direction, grab opportunities and feel fulfilled in an ever-changing community sector.
