Piano for Beginners

Course Outline:

Always wanted to play the piano? This is for you! 

This 10 week hands on  beginners course will get you reading and understanding music notation and playing piano pieces and chords. During the course you'll play 'Lean On Me' and other faves.

- Read rhythm
- Read notes
- Piano geography 
- Play pieces
- Understand chords
- Play songs you know and love!

The classroom has a digital piano for each participant and students will benefit from access to an instrument for basic home practice from one week to the next.

A keyboard or piano at home is beneficial, however no other requirements are needed.

‘ Students who are unable to attend a class in person may attend on zoom. The zoom details, along with the teacher’s contact details will be given at the first lesson’.

Sessions are set out as:

Session 1:

Overview
- the piano keyboard
- music notation
- read and play 5 finger pieces

Session 2:

New notes and rhythms
Adding pieces to your repertoire

Session 3:

Consolidate and add new rhythms and notes
Add more pieces from the book and start understanding chords
Learn to play Beethoven's 'Ode To Joy'

Session 4:

Chord bootcamp week
Play well known songs

Session 5:

Work on pieces from last week and adding more to the repertoire

Session 6:

Additional rhythms, notes and pieces
What do you really want to play?
We'll help you get there in our remaining weeks.

Session 7:

New pieces and songs

Session 8 - 10:

Finishing up - includes optional solo performance of one piece or song.

What to Bring:

Additional cost - Piano book is $25 payable in cash or you can be invoiced on the spot at the first lesson - All other material provided

About the Tutor:

Karen Harris:

Karen has a Bachelor of Music degree and loves passing on her knowledge an passion for piano, singing and guitar.’ Karen is a very experienced teacher who knows exactly how to get adults playing and understanding music quickly so that they can enjoy playing songs they love!

Karen has several music degrees and has been teaching group classes for 30 years. Her infectious enthusiasm makes lessons fun as well as educational.

Tilly Cantrill:

Tilly is an experienced teacher who knows exactly how to get adults playing and understanding music quickly so that they can enjoy the songs they love! Tilly studied a Bachelor of Music and teaches group and private lessons in singing, piano and ukulele. Her infectious enthusiasm makes lessons fun as well as educational
