Over the course of my more-than-forty-year teaching career, I’ve had the privilege of instructing in a wide range of subjects—but none as personally rewarding and creatively fulfilling as art journaling. Whether it’s nature journaling or travel sketching, art journaling is a unique and personal form of expression that transforms a simple notebook into a record of observations, curiosity and personal insight.
Although art has always been a part of my life, my specific passion for art journaling began in 2018. Since then, it has become both a meditative practice and a creative sanctuary. Whether capturing the delicate lines of a leaf or documenting a once-in-a-lifetime journey to Antarctica with sketches and reflections, I’ve found art journaling to be not only a record of what I’ve seen, but a deeper way of looking at things. Art journaling invites experimentation, mindfulness and a sense of wonder—qualities I encourage in my workshops.
I love teaching art journaling to everyone – children, adults who’ve had years of creative experience and those who haven’t picked up a pencil since their school days. I believe it’s a skill anyone can learn, and like any creative practice, it deepens with time and consistency.
