  • Touch Typing for Adults Overview

    Are your current keyboard skills slowing you down at work or study? In today’s digital world, fast and accurate typing is an essential skill. This accredited touch typing course is specifically designed to help you break inefficient habits, master the keyboard, and significantly increase your daily productivity.

    Whether you want to improve your workplace performance or simply save time on personal projects, this structured course will guide you through the foundational muscle-memory techniques required to learn touch typing effectively.

    Course Features & Milestone Tracking

    Accuracy and velocity go hand-in-hand. To help you clearly see your improvement, practical evaluation is built directly into the curriculum:

    • Accredited Curriculum: Gain a formally recognized skill that adds immediate value to your resume.
    • Progressive Evaluation: Regular typing speed tests are included throughout the course so you can track your accuracy and rhythm as you learn.
    • Final Assessment: Complete a formal, final speed test to accurately determine your benchmark Words Per Minute (WPM) and celebrate your progress.
  • Entry Requirements

    • Basic internet, keyboard and mouse skills
    • A telephone or personal meeting may be required with our Training Coordinator who will provide course information and answer your questions to ensure this is the right course for you before you enrol.
    • Unique Student Identifier (see information below).
    • Enrolling students may be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Quiz and/or Digital Skills Questionnaire to confirm suitability for the course and identify any support needs. If you have not previously completed an AQF Certificate III or higher in Australia, an NBMC LLN Quiz may be required. For short courses involving electronic resources or digital participation, you may also need to complete the Digital Skills Questionnaire.
  • Duration

    This course is delivered once a week for 5 weeks.

  • Learning Outcomes

    During this course the following topics will be covered:

    • Become familiar with the keyboard
    • Tips on breaking existing habits
    • Type without looking at the keyboard
    • Increase your speed
    • Understand the importance of safety issues regarding the use of computers

    To maximise the benefits from this course it is recommended that students practice the skills being taught a minimum of 4-6 hours per week between classes. If you do not have a keyboard at home, access to a computer at the Narrabeen Campus is available. Please check with the admin office as to available hours. Includes 1 year subscription to Type-quick.

    Are there Assessments?

    As this course delivers skills from a nationally recognised unit of competency, assessments are included. The assessment comprises a a practical assessment completed in class and a short answer theory question sheet. A Statement of Attainment will be issued on satisfactory completion of the assessments.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a means of measuring skills acquired through work or life experiences or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL must apply for this at least two weeks prior to the course commencing. If you apply after the course commences it may not be accepted.

  • Accreditation & Award

    As part of this course you will be completing the accredited unit:

    • Use digital technology for short and basic workplace tasks (FSKDIG001)

    On successful completion of the assessment tasks associated with this unit, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

  • Fees

    This course may be fully funded for many Australian citizens; permanent residents; New Zealand citizens and Humanitarian Visa Holders under the NSW Government’s Adult & Community Education or Targeted Skills for Small Business funding. See ACE Funding page or TSB Funding page for details or contact Susan Wilkinson on 9970 1000 or email vet@nbmc.nsw.edu.au to check eligibility or for further information.  Subject to funding availability.

  • Unique Student Identifier

    From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.

    Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.

    Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.
