Nature Journaling Overview

Discover a relaxing, creative way to slow down and mindfully engage with your surroundings. Nature journaling is the rewarding practice of using sketches, words, and observations in a journal to record your unique experiences with the environment.

This introductory nature journaling class requires absolutely no drawing or painting experience. Our core philosophy focuses on “drawing to learn, rather than learning to draw.” Instead of worrying about artistic perfection, you will learn practical skills to observe nature closely and express what you see using pencils, pens, and watercolors.

The Benefits of Nature Journaling

Engaging in this creative wellness practice is a wonderful way to enhance both mental and physical well-being. This nature journaling workshop will show you how it:

  • Encourages Mindfulness: Acts as a beautiful, meditative tool that keeps you grounded “in the moment.”
  • Offers Complete Creative Freedom: It is incredibly fun because there are no strict rules and zero pressure.
  • Connects You to Your Environment: Promotes a closer connection to nature, whether you are deep in the bush, sitting in a local park, or relaxing on your apartment balcony.
  • Builds Fine Motor Skills: Naturally strengthens hand-eye coordination and observational focus.
  • Creates a Personal Keepsake: Leaves you with a beautiful, tactile visual record of your life’s experiences and travels.
  • Is Highly Accessible: It is inexpensive, requires minimal materials, and can be practiced anywhere, at any time.

Material List & What to Bring

To make starting out as easy as possible, a Nature Journaling Starter Pack is available for purchase directly from the tutor for $10 (cash) at your first session.

The Starter Pack includes: A quality sketchbook, a graphite pencil, a kneadable eraser, a ballpoint pen, and a specialized waterbrush.

Bringing Your Own Supplies: If you already own art supplies, please bring them along to the workshop! We encourage you to bring your preferred sketchbooks, graphite or colored pencils, fine-liner pens, and watercolor pans.
