Kickstart Your New Business overview

From crafting a unique value proposition to mastering the art of scaling, this 9 week Zoom course will show you how to turn your business concept into your business reality. This dynamic course equips students with the essential tools to craft a robust business plan and develop the skills needed to successfully launch and promote a brand that stands out in today’s competitive marketplace.

What you need to know about this course

  • The course is delivered using a blended learning model which includes face to face Zoom sessions and weekly flexible directed self study hours.
  • Students will need to allow some additional hours between sessions for directed self study and/or the completion of learning and assessment tasks.
  • The course is delivered by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor.
  • Two units of competency are delivered during this course (see above).
  • The resources for this course will be delivered via our NBMC learning management system, CANVAS. Training to use CANVAS will be provided at the beginning of the course. Once access to the course resources is provided, students can either print them and bring them along to class, or access them electronically via their personal laptop. Students enrolling must have access to the following:

– A laptop / computer
– The internet
– A scanner, or a scanner app downloaded on their smart phone

Are there Assessments?

  • Competency based assessment of each unit of competency in the course will be conducted through a mix of assessment methods which may include short answer questions, case studies and theory tasks.
  • You will receive clear assessment instructions and an opportunity will be provided for resubmission of assessments if required.

This training may be subsidised by the NSW Government.

  • A telephone or personal meeting may be required with our Training Coordinator who will provide course information and answer your questions to ensure this is the right course for you before you enrol.
  • Unique Student Identifier (see information below).
  • Enrolling students may be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Quiz and/or Digital Skills Questionnaire to confirm suitability for the course and identify any support needs. If you have not previously completed an AQF Certificate III or higher in Australia, an NBMC LLN Quiz may be required. For short courses involving electronic resources or digital participation, you may also need to complete the Digital Skills Questionnaire.

Students enrolling must have access to the following:

Assessments are made against units of competency.

As part of this course you will be completing the accredited units:

  • Develop and present business proposals (BSBESB302)
  • Investigate business opportunities (BSBESB301)

On successful completion of the assessment tasks associated with this unit, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

The units studied may contribute towards a full Cert IV qualification in Entrepreneurship and New Business (BSB40320).

 

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence (eg passport or driver’s licence) used when creating your USI, eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used. Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia. Please contact the College on 9970 1000 if you require assistance

Microsoft Teams is an easy-to-use video conferencing and collaboration platform with a simple setup. You’ll be able to see your trainer and classmates and interact just as you would in a face-to-face classroom, all from the comfort of your own home.

To join a Microsoft Teams classroom, you will need:

  • A basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Teams.
  • Access to a computer, iPad/tablet, or smartphone; and
  • A webcam* so your trainer can see you; and
  • A microphone* so you can participate in discussions; and
  • A reliable internet connection.

*Most laptops come with built-in webcams and microphones. Smartphones and tablets also include cameras and microphones. A tablet or smartphone is only suitable for viewing Teams meetings, a computer is required to access resources and submit assessments in our Learning Management System.

Please note: Students must watch our Microsoft Teams instructional video before enrolling in any course they plan to attend via Teams if they are not already confident using Teams.

 

This short course provides a pathway to completing BSB40320 Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship & New Business.

This course may be fully funded for many Australian citizens; permanent residents; New Zealand citizens and Humanitarian Visa Holders under the NSW Government’s Adult & Community Education or Targeted Skills for Small Business funding. See ACE Funding page or TSB Funding page for details or contact Susan Wilkinson on 9970 1000 or email vet@nbmc.nsw.edu.au to check eligibility or for further information.
