Introduction to Auslan 1 Online offers students the unique and fun experience of learning how to communicate visually using Auslan (Australian sign language), the native language of the Australian Deaf community.
Join in the unique and fun experience of learning to communicate visually with Auslan (Australian sign language), the native language of the Australian Deaf community.
Each week you get access to a brand-new video with all the signs for the week, plus a live online class with a deaf teacher where you will practice your Auslan skills for 2 hours. You will be in a small, live class through Zoom, interacting with your classmates and teacher. You will need a laptop or desktop computer so that you can see everything clearly (no phones or tablets please).
To attend the virtual classes, you require:
Familiarity with Zoom
• a computer/laptop
• an inbuilt camera or webcam
• have reliable internet connection.

Jodie McPherson has been a High School teacher for the past 11 years teaching various languages. Jodie specialised in Auslan for the last 3 years at her previous school, she assisted with implementing AUSLAN as a Stage 4 Elective.
By the end of Introduction to Auslan 1, students will have gained the following:
This course is delivered once a week over a period of 8 weeks. In the event where an online class needs to be cancelled by the organiser, the course can be extended by 1 week to make up for the missed class. To be eligible to receive a statement of attainment(non accredited) you are required to attend 6 out of 8 classes.
