Canva Beginners for Social Media Level 1 Overview

Learn the essential tools and tricks for using Canva. This class is for beginners who feel unsure in Canva and want to feel more confident creating content for social media and marketing.
In this class we will:
  • Get comfortable moving around the Canva screen and main tools
  • Learn which menus, panels and icons we actually need to use
  • Work with text, images and elements
  • Learn how layers work in Canva and why they’re so important
  • Work with Instagram post layouts as a base for social media content
  • Customise ready-made templates with your own text, colours and images
  • Learn practical ways to save, download and reuse your designs

 

Please Bring:

Bring a notebook. We will have some time in class for you to work on your own projects and ask me questions.
Everything in this class can be done with Canva’s free subscription.

  • No previous experience with the platform is required.  If you are a beginner or recently discovered Canva but are finding the program difficult to navigate then course will provide a comprehensive overview and get you into a more comfortable workflow.  However if you’re already a confident user of Canva,  but wish to refine your existing knowledge and broaden your skills,  then please enrol in the Canva Intermediate class instead ( the Intermediate class requires Canva Pro subscription).
  • Please sign up for your Canva account before class and bring your log-in details with you. I prefer and recommend using email as your sign-up option rather than through a social media network. It is quick to sign up, though, so if you need help setting up your account, you will need access to an email account and we can do that in class.  We will be using the FREE Canva software, all of these features are also in Canva Pro,  but the paid account is not required for this introductory course.
  • Bring your own device – tablet or laptop (no smartphones). If bringing an iPad as your device, please make sure to bring an Apple pencil or equivalent accessory for an Android Tablet to class with you. 

In this course we will use the resources within Canva to create graphics and artwork suitable for both online and print. Skills learned in each exercise are designed to get you more familiar and comfortable with the Canva platform. The projects we do in class may include:

· banner images

· social media posts

· video posts

· GIF

· checklist which can be printed or added to a digital planner

· business card design suitable to print

· postcard design suitable to print

    This course is delivered in one session.

    This course may be fully funded for many Australian citizens; permanent residents; New Zealand citizens and Humanitarian Visa Holders under the NSW Government’s Adult & Community Education or Targeted Skills for Small Business funding. See ACE Funding page or TSB Funding page for details or contact Susan Wilkinson on 9970 1000 or email vet@nbmc.nsw.edu.au to check eligibility or for further information.  Subject to funding availability.
