Boost Your Digital Skills

This foundational course is structured for those who are seeking to develop their computer skills, in a supportive, structured environment. Designed for beginners, we will take a walkthrough of the Windows 11 operating system and the fundamentals of internet navigation. No prior computer experience is required.

Key Learning Objectives

• Learn to use the Start Menu, navigate around the desktop screen, open multiple windows, use the taskbar and customize your settings such as volume, brightness etc
• Understand how to open, organize, save, and retrieve files.
• Learn how to understand the distinction between the address bar, different search engines, opening and navigating websites.
• Develop search techniques using major search engines to quickly locate reliable information, news, resources, and services.
• Establish vital best practices for online security, including identifying secure websites, recognizing potential scams, and protecting personal data.

Target Audience

• Individuals seeking to build a strong foundational knowledge of modern technology from the ground up.
• Workforce Re-entry Candidates: Professionals looking to update their basic tech skills to align with modern office environments using Windows 11.

No prior knowledge or technical background is expected. All concepts will be introduced at a measured, accessible pace with ample opportunity for guided practice.

• Some basic keyboard and mouse skills
• Access to a PC computer with MS Office (not suitable for MAC users)
• A telephone or personal meeting may be required with our Training Coordinator who will provide course information and answer your questions to ensure this is the right course for you before you enrol.
• Unique Student Identifier (see information below).
• Enrolling students may be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Quiz and/or Digital Skills Questionnaire to confirm suitability for the course and identify any support needs. If you have not previously completed an AQF Certificate III or higher in Australia, an NBMC LLN Quiz may be required. For short courses involving electronic resources or digital participation, you may also need to complete the Digital Skills Questionnaire.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – is a process of acknowledging previously completed qualifications, skills, knowledge or experience relevant to your course. This may reduce the amount of learning required, reduce your course fees and allow you to achieve your qualification faster. Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL should discuss this with our Training Coordinator on enrolment.

As a part of this course you will be completing the accredited units:

• Operate digital devices (BSBTEC101) 
• Research using the internet (BSBTEC203) 

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information. Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence (eg passport or driver’s licence) used when creating your USI, eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used. Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place.
