Digital Skills for the Over 55s overview

Boost your digital confidence! This program is tailored for over 55s, guiding you through the essentials of MS Windows, MS Word, email, and personal cyber security. Gain practical skills, stay connected, and learn to navigate the digital world safely.

 

What you need to know about this course

  • The course is delivered using a blended learning model which includes timetabled classroom attendance and weekly flexible directed self study hours.
  • Students will need to allow time during the course for directed self study for the completion of learning and assessment tasks.
  • The course is delivered in the College’s fully equipped training room by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor.
  • 4 units of competency will be studied during this short course, as listed above.
  • A timetable will be provided on course commencement.

 

Are there Assessments?

  • Competency based assessment of each unit of competency in the course will be conducted through a mix of assessment methods which may include short answer questions, case studies and theory tasks.
  • You will receive clear assessment instructions and an opportunity will be provided for resubmission of assessments if required.

As part of this course you will be completing the accredited units:

  • Use digital technology for short and basic workplace tasks (FSKDIG001)
  • Design and produce business documents (BSBTEC301)
  • Read and respond to simple workplace information (FSKRDG007)
  • Protect own personal online profile from cyber security threats (BSBXCS301)

On successful completion of the assessment tasks associated with this unit, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – is a means of measuring skills acquired through work or life experiences or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL must apply for this at least two weeks prior to the course commencing. If you apply after the course commences it may not be accepted.

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.

Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.

This course is fully funded by the NSW Government for applicants who meet the eligibility criteria below.

  • An Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/ NZ Citizen/Humanitarian visa holder or a partner visa holder whose sponsor is a humanitarian visa holder; and
  • Live or work in NSW, and
  • No longer at school, and
  • Aged 15 years or older
