Japanese Beginners Stage 1

Course Outline:

For students with little or no knowledge of Japanese. You will learn the basic vocabulary and grammar to meet people, introducing yourself, be friended with Japanese people, shopping, Staying in
hotels, ordering food and beverages at restaurants. Come and enjoy a conversational course if you are interested in Japanese cool cultures - Manga, Anime, TV games and J-POP music! Strongly
recommended to learn in this course for first time travellers for leisure or staying as a resident for short/long term or sightseeing reason. Based on a conversational, practical approach dealing with
everyday situations, it is ideal if you are intending to travel or leisure or if you simply wish to enjoy the Japanese language. Teaching Unique Japanese culture and basic Japanese letter (Hiragana,
Katakana, Kanji) also will be covered.

No prior knowledge, skills or prerequisites needed. Bringing your "can-do" and " will-do" attitude will be very helpful. Writing Japanese alphabets frequently will be a homework/assignment in this class.. 

Session 1:

Introductory class (Initial rules in the class, manners, housekeeping will be discussed)
Various greetings (Ohayo, Konnichiwa, Arigatou, Sumimasen)
Introduce yourself (Watashi no namae wa ... )
*We will pair up in the class and/or doing work as a group for conversation practice Hiragana,
Katakana (Unique Japanese alphabets)
Basic Japanese vocabs

Session 2:

Go shopping (Kaimono o suru)
Hiragana, Katakana continue Basic Japanese vocabs

Session 3:

Inviting friends (Tomodachi o sasou)
Hiragana, Katakana continues, Basic Japanese vocabs

Session 4:

Riding a train (Densha ni noru)
Hiragana, Katakana continues, Basic Japanese vocabs

Session 5:

Getting a haircut (Kami o kiru)
Hiragana, Katakana continues (finalising)
Easy basic Kanji to navigate yourself in Japan Basic Japanese vocabs

Session 6:

Ordering at a restaurant (resutoran de chumon suru)
Easy basic Kanji to navigate yourself in Japan Basic Japanese vocabs

Session 7:

Going to a hospital (Byoin e iku)
Alphabet test
Basic Japanese vocabs

Session 8:

Pop Culture (Poppu karuchaa)
Alphabet final test
Basic Japanese vocabs quiz

What to Bring:

Notepad (must be10mm Grid ruled - cheap ones available at Officeworks, Big W or K-mart), pens (including pencils and red pen) and eraser
No need to purchase any books as there will be photocopied handouts

About the Tutor:

Mami Himura Cheng

Mami Himura Cheng is a Japanese national, born, grew up, and was fully educated in Hokkaido, Japan. Mami immigrated to Australia in 2007 and has been living in Sydney as a permanent resident
ever since. Mami worked as a librarian at a public library in Japan for 5 years and had 11 years’ experience in a career as a ZUMBA Fitness instructor all around the Northern Beaches area. Mami is
also teaching Japanese to children with a Japanese background at the local community language school. Mami’s finished Cert 3 in Business course at NBCA in June 2022 and currently working as a
medical receptionist at a local medical centre ever since.
Mami loves to create a fun, friendly and engaging atmosphere in the class. She is excited to share her aspects and knowledge with you all, and keen for you to gain a deeper understanding of
Japanese language and its culture.
