Understanding & Supporting People with Mental Health Issues

Support people with mental health issues. This nationally accredited unit gives you the skills and knowledge required to establish relationships, clarify needs, and then work collaboratively with people of any age, who are living with mental health issues. It includes information on how to:

  • Establish respectful relationships with people with mental health issues
  • Identify signs of mental illnesses
  • Determine the needs of people with mental health issues
  • Support people with mental health issues to meet aspirations and needs

Working with people with mental health issues involves knowing how to best communicate with them, how to complete mandatory reporting and how to support their rights at every stage of treatment and care.

Career Opportunities

  • Enhance existing skills.
  • May lead to to a career in the community services industry as a mental health worker (with further training). This unit is part of Certificate IV in Community Services.
