Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) (SITHFAB002)

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell or serve alcohol.

Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is served or sold, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit, therefore, applies to any workplace where alcohol is served or sold, including all types of hospitality venues, retail liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries.

This unit applies to all levels of sales personnel involved in the sale, service and promotional service of alcohol in licensed premises. Those selling or serving alcohol may include food and beverage attendants; retail liquor sales persons; winery, brewery and distillery cellar door staff and supplier sales representatives. It also applies to security staff who monitor customer behaviour and to the licensee who is ultimately responsible for RSA management.

On successful completion the student will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol, which is a single Unit of Competency from the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package SIT16. Students will also receive a RSA Interim Certificate issued by the Office of Liquor, Gaming & Racing (OLGR) to comply with new regulations. The RSA Interim Certificate is the temporary licence for working purposes and will last for 90 days from course completion date. Students must take their interim certificate with 100 points of identification to a participating Service Centre NSW to process the RSA Competency Card – the official licence issued by OLGR lasts for 5 years from course completion date. To find your nearest Service Centre please click here or call 13 77 88.

Please Note: If you already hold an RSA or RCG competency card and it is due to be renewed this course is not suitable for you. Please visit Service NSW for more information on how to renew.

Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL must apply for this at least two weeks prior to the course commencing. If you apply after the course commences it may not be accepted.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI – go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.

Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.

Course testimonials:

  • This is my second course at NBCC and both times have been excellent with terrific teachers.
  • The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location of the premises was very good and allowed for easy access to public transport to and from. The course itself to be honest could have taken less time as the test was quite easy for me but I can understand that certain people may have difficulty and they must be accounted for. All in all it was a positive experience.
  • Katherine was very helpful and informative and was thorough with explaining the purpose and benefits of the training
