Introduction to Gardening

Whether you have a large backyard, small balcony or potted garden this introductory gardening course is for everyone, filled with hints and tips to get your green thumb. In this weekend course you will be taught basic gardening techniques and knowledge so that you can use these practical ideas in your space at home.

You will learn:
• how to water wise your garden
• explore the special characteristics of plant identification
• plant selection & design, propagation techniques
• soil improvement
• pest and disease identification and treatment
• some basic garden maintenance
• explore organic & natural remedies for pest and disease control instead of using chemicals.

You are advised to bring a jar of soil from a troubled spot in their garden or pot plant, as we will conduct a pH test and provide recommendations for improvements for your garden.

This will be an interactive class environment mixing hands on basic theory, and plenty of time for questions and answers to build your confidence as a gardener.

What to Bring

Please bring note book and pen, and soil sample. Notes will be provided, dress appropriately you may get your hands dirty.
Please bring lunch.

About the Tutor

Cameron is a highly qualified and experienced horticulturalist and has worked in many facets of the horticultural industry over the past 25 years. This includes working in research, wholesale and retail environments in managerial and consultancy roles. More recently he has been involved in the validation of certificate horticultural and agricultural courses, been a professional judge for the Hawkesbury Council Garden Competition 2018 & conducted guided tours for the David Jones Spring Flower Show 2018 & 2019. His knowledge, charisma and passion of horticulture will inspire you.
