Statement of Attainment in First Aid for Early Childhood (HLTAID004) - Skilling for Recovery - Fee Free

This funded course delivers the nationally accredited unit Provide Emergency First Aid Response in an Education & Care Setting (HLTAID004). It has been developed for teachers and carers will give you the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, in a range of situations in an education and care setting. This is the appropriate course for childcare workers.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

Elements and Performance Criteria

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Apply appropriate emergency first aid procedures
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Evaluate the incident and own performance

Please note: to complete this unit satisfactorily you must be able to perform basic life support skills and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing the required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency. If however you do not need to obtain a Statement of Attainment but would like the knowledge, you are welcome to enrol.

Online Theory Completion – Before Course Starts

All students will have to complete an online theory course component as a prerequisite to completing the practical session. Students must complete the online theory before the class date – this will take approximately 3 hours. If students fail to complete this, they will not be eligible to attend the practical day. When you enrol for the course you will be sent login details to complete the theory section online (note: if you have not received your login at least one week prior to the course date, please check your junk mail and/or contact the College immediately) - once completed, students must print out the Certificate of Completion to hand to their trainer at the beginning of the practical day.

If internet access is an issue please contact the college on 9970 1000. Course fee includes a course manual which will be given to students at the practical day.

Please note: Students must be at least 17 years of age to be eligible to attend this course fee free under Skilling for Recovery/JobTrainer funding.

Please arrive in plenty of time as no admission to the course will be allowed after 9.15am. No transfer or refund will be provided in these circumstances.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.

Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.

Eligibility for Subsided Training

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under the Smart & Skilled and Skilling for Recovery Training Programs. To be eligible you must be

  • an Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/NZ citizen/humanitarian visa holder
  • aged 15 years or older, and
  • live or work in New South Wales, and
  • no longer be at school or equivalent

Eligibility for “Skilling for Recovery” - Free Training

Skilling for Recovery is a NSW Government initiative to deliver JobTrainer funding in NSW. It provides free certificate, diploma and short course training to eligible applicants. If you meet the Smart & Skilled Program eligibility above and one of the following you could complete this course fee free:

• Unemployed (with or without a benefit); or
• Be in receipt of a Commonwealth Government welfare benefit (as specified on the Smart and Skilled Funding page); or
• At risk of unemployment; or
• 17-24 years old (employed or not)
