Excel 2019 PowerPivot for Reporting

Course Outline

While traditional Excel Pivot Tables are the go to data analysis tool for many of us, we do run into some inherent limitations, like the fact that Excel can only store a million rows, importing the data can be repetitive and time consuming performance becomes a big issue with larger data sets, pivots only pull data from one source so we have to use clumsy VLOOKUPs to link our data and the analysis we can do with Pivots is limited to quite basic operations. Power Pivot addresses all of these issues by allowing us to create a data model in Excel that links data sources and can store tens or even hundreds of millions of rows. Power Pivot also introduces a powerful data analysis language called DAX which enables us to create sophisticated analysis in our Pivot Tables. In this half day course we introduce Power Pivot, how to create a data model and how we can build pivot tables that pull data from multiple data sets in the data model and use DAX measures to perform powerful data analysis. Topics Covered • Getting started with Power Pivot • Importing Data into Power Pivot • Creating the Data Model • Using DAX to create Calculated Columns • Using DAX to create measures • Analysing data with PowerPivot • Visualising data with Pivot Charts This course is suitable for more advanced Excel users who ideally have worked with pivot tables and VLOOKUPs. We recommend doing the Power Query course before this, but it is not a requirement. Power Pivot is currently only available for Windows (not Mac).
