Dressmaking Daytime Class

This course is designed for all skill levels. Reading and understanding of commercial patterns will be explained. All aspects of machine sewing, including the use of an overlocker, will be developed. Any fabric may be used, but if you are a beginner please choose fabric carefully. It is recommended that beginners avoid Burda patterns. Note you will need to bring your own sewing machine.

Sewing Machine.
Sewing box.
Tape measure, good quality pins.
Assorted sewing needles, quick-unpick.
Tailors chalk, machine bobbin to fit Bernina machine, sharp dressmaking scissors.
A pattern – if you are a beginner, choose an easy to make design.
Fabric and thread as recommended for the pattern you have chosen.
Any fabric may be used, however it is recommended that beginners choose fabric carefully and avoid Burda patterns.

About the Tutor

Jennifer Ashpole holds a diploma of Teaching, Bachelor of Education and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Education. She has also completed a short fashion course in Paris at the Paris American Fashion Academy. She has been teaching since 1979 in a wide range of educational areas. This includes teaching Textiles and Design at HSC level and Design & Technology and Computer Science to Year 10 students. Jennifer has enjoyed changing her focus to adult education, teaching dressmaking with Mosman Community College, since the late 1980’s.
