Do you want to be a Carer?

Have you ever thought about working in aged/disability or home care? This short course will provide an introduction to the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support.

Units to be studied:

HLTWHS001 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems

How will I Learn?

The course comprises two classroom based sessions per week for three weeks and additional self study hours. The training will be delivered in the College’s fully equipped aged care training room by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor.

Course entry requirements

There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course. Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences

Are there Assessments?

Competency based assessment will be conducted through theory tasks, projects and practical demonstration. You will be required to complete self study and assessment work in your own time. There is usually a short answer question and small project associated with each unit of competency. Some units of competency require training and assessment of practical skills.

Pathway to Further Training

This course is designed as an introduction to CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support, which may provide a pathway to Certificate IV in Ageing Support, the Diploma of Leisure & Health or Diploma of Nursing.

On successful completion of this short course, if you choose to enrol in CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support, you will receive credit for the three units completed. This may also reduce the cost of the full qualification enrolment.

National Recognition

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - is a means of measuring skills acquired through work or life experiences or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL must apply for this at least two weeks prior to the course commencing.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI go to the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Website for additional information.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used. Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.

This training may be subsidised by the NSW Government under the Adult & Community Education Funding Program . To be eligible you must be

  • an Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/NZ citizen/humanitarian visa holder
  • aged 15 years or older, and
  • live or work in New South Wales, and
  • no longer be at school or equivalent
