Course Outline:

Have you ever thought you might enjoy watercolour painting? It’s such a wonderfully soft and expressive medium, quite delicate but dynamic. Then this relaxed painting course could be just for you. Your tutor, a master of fine art, will guide you, step-by-step through the basic techniques and skills, so after spending just a weekend on watercolour, you will have attained the confidence to paint pictures you will be proud to show your family and friends, as well as having a brand new means of artistic expression at your finger tips. Join this fun, relaxed course and discover this wonderful, soft yet powerful medium. You’ll begin by learning basic techniques, colour mixing and effects. Bring along your own subject – a favourite photo of a landscape, loved one or pet. You’ll be amazed by your progress in only a very short time.

Please note if you have not completed a course with John Wells before, please follow the link below to the Watercolour Painting for Absolute Beginners where in the first week John will take you through the groundwork needed to complete this very popular course.

Please Bring

• 1 Canson Watercolour pad, 300gr A4 size
• 1 A3 Drawing Board of a board to fit A4
• 1 Rolls of masking tape
• 1 HB pencil
• 1 White Staedler rubber
• Brushes: 3 soft, round brushes, size 2,4 and 6 (Dacron; Student quality)
• Container for water
• 1 White china plate or appropriate palette (not clear plastic)
• 1 Bottle of Masking Fluid
• 1 Hair Dryer

• Cadmium Yellow
• Ultramarine Blue
• Cobalt Blue
• Sap Green
• Viridian Green
• Yellow Ochre
• Burnt Umber
• Raw Umber
• Burnt Sienna
• Raw Sienna

If you are unable to source all of the items please do not worry. Bring along what you can to the first session and John can help you source any items you could not find/purchase. Black or White watercolour paints are not needed.

Your subject matter can be taken from a photograph, so to support this watercolour painting course, please bring photographs of a family member, a favourite pet, a well loved holiday location, a still life group or a flower study. Otherwise, bring along a selection so there are a few to choose from.
