This course is designed to give you a taste of what it is like working for an organisation as a recreational officer. Upon successful completion of this short course you may choose to immediately continue your studies to complete CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure & Health. You will receive credit for the units you have already successfully completed during this course.
How will I Learn?
The course comprises four classroom based sessions one day per week over a four week period, and additional self study hours. The training will be delivered in the College’s fully equipped training room by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor. If you choose you can continue at the end of this short course to complete CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure & Health, which is fully funded under NSW Fee Free funding.
Course entry requirements
- Telephone or personal meeting with our Training Coordinator who will provide course information and answer your questions to ensure this is the right course for you before you enrol.
- Unique Student Identifer (see information below).
- Completion of an online NBMC English language, literacy and numeracy quiz to determine that you have appropriate skills to successfully complete the course.
What you need to know about this course
- The course is delivered using a blended learning model which includes timetabled classroom attendance over 4 days in a 4 week period and weekly flexible directed self study hours.
- Students will need to allow time during the course for directed self study for the completion of learning and assessment tasks.
- The course is delivered in the College’s fully equipped training room by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor.

Are there Assessments?
- Competency based assessment of the two units of competency in this course will be conducted through a mix of assessment methods including case studies, theory tasks and practical demonstration.
- You will receive clear assessment instructions and an opportunity will be provided for resubmission of assessments if required.
Pathway to Further Training and Employment
This short course provides a pathway to completing the Certificate IV in Leisure & Health. Completion of Certificate IV in Leisure & Health will allow you to work as an Activities Officer; Diversional Therapy Assistant; Community Leisure Officer; Leisure Officer; Disability Officer – Day Support; or a Recreation Activities Officer.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence (eg passport or driver’s licence) used when creating your USI, eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used. Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place.
