Thinking about a career as a nursing assistant or an allied health assistant but not quite ready to commit to a full qualification? This fee free nationally accredited short course will provide an introduction to understanding and working in the health services industry. Upon successful completion of this short course you may choose to immediately continue your studies to complete either a nursing assistant (HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance) or allied health assistant course (HLT33015 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance). Both courses are also funded under Skilling for Recovery for eligible applicants and available as daytime or evening courses. You will receive credit for the units you have already completed during this course.
How will I Learn?
The course comprises five classroom based sessions over a two week period and additional self study hours. The training will be delivered in the College’s fully equipped nursing training room by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor. If you choose, you can continue at the end of this short course, to complete either Certificate III in Health Services Assistance or Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance, both of which are fully funded under Skilling for Recovery/Jobtrainer funding.
Course entry requirements
- Telephone or personal meeting with our Training Coordinator who will provide course information and answer your questions to ensure this is the right course for you before you enrol.
- Unique Student Identifer (see information below).
- Completion of an online NBMC English language, literacy and numeracy quiz to determine that you have appropriate skills to successfully complete the course.
What you need to know about this course
- The course is delivered using a blended learning model which includes timetabled classroom attendance over 5 days in a two week period and weekly flexible directed self study hours.
- Students will need to allow time during the course for directed self study for the completion of learning and assessment tasks.
- The course is delivered in the College’s fully equipped training room by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor.

Are there Assessments?
- Competency based assessment of the two units of competency in this course will be conducted through a mix of assessment methods including case studies, theory tasks and practical demonstration.
- You will receive clear assessment instructions and an opportunity will be provided for resubmission of assessments if required.
Pathway to Further Training and Employment
This short course provides a pathway to completing the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance HLT33115 or Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance HLT33015. Completion of Certificate III in Health Services Assistance will allow you to work as a nursing assistant in a variety of health care settings including hospitals and other care facilities. Completion of Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance HLT33015 will allow you to work in a role supporting physios, podiatrists or speech pathologists in a range of settings like hospitals, medical practices, mental health clinics, schools, aged care facilities or in a community health organisation.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)
From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence (eg passport or driver’s licence) used when creating your USI, eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used. Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place.
